How to choose a biological buffer

A practical starting framework for discussing pH range, process compatibility, grade, and evaluation criteria.

All resources

Begin with the working pH

Define the operating pH range before comparing individual buffers. The useful choice depends on the actual formulation, assay, or biomanufacturing step rather than a product name alone.

Check process compatibility

Review temperature, ionic strength, downstream analysis, and other materials in the workflow. Record conditions that could affect the evaluation so the supplier can discuss an appropriate starting point.

Define the required grade

Biobrightech's supplied biological-buffer range includes Standard, Super, and Ultimate grade concepts. Select a grade only after identifying which purity and metal-control requirements matter to the intended use.

Plan the evaluation

Document the candidate product, concentration, acceptance criteria, expected volume, and required technical documents. Product-specific limits should be confirmed against an approved specification or certificate of analysis.

Bring your application requirements into focus

Share the product, specification, or workflow you are evaluating.
